East Kent Edit

A Reflection on Colour, Landscape, and Creative Community

I'm thrilled to be part of East Kent Edit, a group exhibition featuring five contemporary artists connected by our shared love of this unique and inspiring part of the world. Showing alongside such talented creatives has been both energising and grounding — a real celebration of the rich artistic community we have here in East Kent.

My own journey in painting began at Morley College, where I studied both painting and drawing. Since then, I’ve continued to develop my practice at Creek Creative Studios in Faversham. Naturally drawn to landscapes, I often find myself inspired by the places I’ve travelled, but it’s the Kent countryside, where I now live, that continues to shape my work most deeply.

I’m fascinated by the colours and forms found in nature. The longer you look, the more intense everything becomes — the greens are greener, the shadows warmer. With a background as a hair colourist, I’ve always had a keen sensitivity to colour. That instinct now plays a huge role in how I approach a canvas. I like to push the hues I see in the landscape, intensifying or abstracting them to create bold, expressive paintings that capture not just the view, but the feeling of being there.

My work can be seen at One Gatefield Street until May 30th.
